Nomination Criteria
PURPOSE OF THE AWARDS:
In a recent survey of 5,000 seventh through twelfth grade students in our Muskingum County and Zanesville City Schools, 60% of youth did not feel valued by their community. Many of us know many terrific young people who are making significant volunteer contributions or achievements in their schools, neighborhoods, and/or communities. Our Muskingum County “Celebrate Youth Service Awards” is an opportunity to honor the young people who give to their community through unselfish volunteer efforts.
NOMINATIONS:
Any community member, agency, business or organization may nominate as many individual youth or youth groups as they feel deserving. Nominees should meet these requirements:
Ø Be Muskingum County youth 22 years of age and younger;
Ø Volunteering or achievements have happened within the last 12 months;
Ø Through their volunteer efforts, he/she/they have made a contribution to others, the community or the environment;
Ø He/She/They have demonstrated one or more of the following: courage, compassion, and/or service.
Some examples of volunteer work that directly or indirectly benefits the community may include, but is not limited to:
w Peer counseling w Community involvement or service
w Health promotion w Environmental projects
w Substance abuse prevention w Creative arts
w Athletes as role models w Leaving a Legacy
w Raising community awareness w Overcoming disabilities or adversity
w Mentoring
THE AWARDS:
All nominees will receive a Certificate of Recognition. Award categories are: 12 years & under; 13-17 years; 18-22 years; Youth Group and Mayor’s Award. Winners in each category will receive trophies and scholarships or savings bonds AND be special guests in the Bicentennial Parade. Awards will be presented during a special Recognition Ceremony at The Happy Birthday Ohio! Zanesville/Muskingum County Bicentennial Celebration, Saturday, September 13 in downtown Zanesville.
